Caribbean cruise books Lawrence musician

Lawrence blues singer-pianist Kelley Hunt is taking a cruise this winter. But she won’t be lounging on the deck. She’ll be entertaining passengers with her boogie-woogie tunes.

Hunt is among the musicians who will perform during Bluesin’ Blast, a cruise Feb. 4-8 aboard the Italian MSC Melody, which will sail from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and to the Caribbean ports of Port Locaya, Bahamas and Key West.

The lineup of performers includes Taj Mahal, Koko Taylor, The Radiators, Rod Piazza and the Might Flyers, Lonnie Brooks, Chubby Carrier, Curtis Salgado, Bernard Allison and Li’l Ed and the blues Imperials.

Peter Max to appear at gallery receptions

Overland Park “Pop to Patriotism,” an exhibition by pop artist Peter Max, will be shown through Aug. 31 at The Gallery at Hawthorne Plaza, 4845 W. 119th St.

Max will be present at two public receptions, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25.

“Pop to Patriotism” features more than 100 pieces of art, including original paintings, drawings and limited-edition prints. The subject matter ranges from his well-known “Cosmic” images to his famous iconic paintings.

Max’s works often promote the causes he is passionate about: human and animal rights, world peace and the environment. After the Sept. 11 attacks, he created a poster series celebrating America and the American Spirit, which can be seen at www.petermax.com. Proceeds are donated to charities benefiting the families of victims.
