Here are today’s headlines from the Kansas congressional delegation:Sen. Pat Roberts (R)!(49abcnews.com) President has support from Sen. Pat Roberts: Republican Senator Pat Roberts was at Fort Riley Thursday. While many Republicans are distancing themselves from President Bush’s war strategy, Roberts says he backs Bush and General Petraeus’s decision to slowly withdraw troops. “We’re stressed and strained in terms of numbers so we have to bring some people back regardless of what anybody says, so I hope that Congress understands that, and that General Patraeus will be making those decisions on the ground as the situation dictates,” Roberts said.Rep. Jerry Moran (R) ![(McPherson Sentinel) Rep. Moran the perfect Kansas host:][4] LITTLE RIVER — It was oddly similar to the tale of the country mouse and the city mouse Wednesday as Rep. Jerry Moran gave his fellow ag committee member Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D) from Connecticut a tour of rural Kansas. At DeLauro’s request, Moran brought the self-professed “city girl” to Rice County, stopping off for lunch at Cheryl’s Cafe in Little River. The legislators were met by 24 farmers, ranchers and farm agency representatives who told of the challenges they face in rural America. DeLauro told the assembled crowd how she approached Moran one day and asked “What does a farmer do?” Moran began to explain what a typical farmer in Kansas does to keep the farm going but, as Moran tells it, he was cut off by Sen. DeLauro. “No, no, Jerry what does he do?” DeLauro wanted to see the everyday setting of an American farmer so Moran invited her to come see a Kansas farm first-hand. But schedules and commitments got in the way and it took 18 months for DeLauro to find two days she could spend touring towns, farms, hospitals and the state fair. [4]: Rep.
