KU Crime Blotter: Week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4

The following incidents were reported to the University of Kansas Office of Public Safety between Monday, Nov. 28, and Sunday, Dec. 4. Incidents are listed by the dates they were reported.

Dec. 4

• Someone used blue and purple spray paint to mark a wall and door between Dec. 1 and Dec. 4 at the Hall Center. Damage was estimated at $200.

Dec. 3

• Extortion/blackmail occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at Lewis Residence Hall. Someone hacked the victim’s email account, copied personal photos and videos and threatened to place the items on social media if they did not receive more. (See related story here.)

• Disorder occurred about 3 a.m. Dec. 3 at Lewis Residence Hall. Someone discharged a fire extinguisher in the hall.

• Someone used red paint to write “Rush” in an elevator Dec. 2 or Dec. 3 at Snow Hall. Loss was valued at $40.

• Someone keyed a car between Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Lot 104, 1700 block of Engel Road. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

• Someone cut a lock and removed a bicycle from the rack Dec. 2 at Self Residence Hall. Loss was valued at $260.

Dec. 1

• Someone stole makeup from a room between Nov. 22 and Nov. 27 at GSP Residence Hall. Loss was valued at $67.

• Someone passed a counterfeit $5 bill at Quik Trip, 1000 block of E. 23rd St. The counterfeit bill was then passed off to a KU student, who tried to buy food with it Dec. 1. Loss was valued at $5. (See related story here.)

Nov. 30

• Someone stole an outdoor table and chairs Nov. 29 or Nov. 30 from the chancellor’s residence. Loss was valued at $505.

Nov. 29

• Someone took a framed print from a public area between Nov. 26 and Nov. 29 on the fifth floor of Watson Library. Loss was valued at $90.

• Someone spray painted graffiti on two trailers Nov. 28 or Nov. 29 behind the facilities garage in the 300 block of Westbrooke Street. Damage was estimated at less than $500.

• Someone used a fake $10 bill to make a purchase Nov. 28 or Nov. 29 at Watson Library. Loss was valued at $10. (See related story here.)

• Someone stole a license place off a vehicle Nov. 28 or Nov. 29 in Lot 56, 1100 block Fambrough Way. Loss was valued at $22.50.

• When searching a room police found someone in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia about 9:45 p.m. Nov. 29 at Oswald Residence Hall. The person was arrested.

Nov. 28

• Trespassing occurred about 5:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at KK Amini Scholarship Hall. Someone entered the building after being told they could not be there. The person was arrested.

• During a search warrant police found someone with marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a fake driver’s license about 5 p.m. Nov. 28 at Oliver Residence Hall. At least one person was arrested.
