Man arrested after reportedly hitting neighbor with hatchet

A Lawrence man went to jail overnight after allegedly hitting his neighbor with a hatchet — the blunt side — police said.

The two neighbors had an “ongoing dispute,” and the altercation stemmed from that, Officer Shawn Gross said, in an email.

After being called by other neighbors, police responded just before 9 p.m. Wednesday to the reported fight in the 2600 block of Winterbrook Drive, Gross said. He said one of the men hit the other with the blunt side of a hatchet. The victim’s injuries were minor and he refused medical assistance.

According to corresponding jail records, Jim D. Jameson, 43, was arrested at his home in connection with the incident and jailed on suspicion of aggravated battery. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance in the felony case Thursday afternoon, according to Douglas County District Court records.
