Multiple people reported hearing yelling and gunshots Sunday night in the 2500 block of West Sixth Street.

Police checked it out and found spent shell casings and rounds of ammunition in the parking lot of the Country Club on 6th apartments, but no one reported being injured or having property damaged by gunfire, Officer Derrick Smith of the Lawrence Police Department said in an email to media Monday morning.

The sounds of shots were reported just after 8:30 p.m. Smith said that afterward, police conducted an area canvass and collected the evidence. The investigation remained open on Monday.
