Arrest follows gunshots, reported yard-art theft in rural Douglas County

Some men reportedly went from shooting off a gun by Clinton Lake to stealing yard art from a home in rural Douglas County before one was arrested Sunday night.

According to Sgt. Kristen Channel of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of two men shooting a gun near Clinton Lake boat ramp No. 4, in the 1200 block of East 600 Road, about 10:30 p.m. Sunday. They drove away from the area while deputies were on the way, and a witness who was following the vehicle saw them steal yard art from a home near the town of Clinton, Channel said.

Deputies soon stopped the men, and the vehicle’s driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, theft, possession of a firearm under the influence and criminal discharge of a firearm.

According to jail records, he is Samuel D. Bear, 24, of Lawrence. According to Douglas County District Court records, he was charged with misdemeanors and made his first appearance in court Monday.
