Eudora takes 4A girls track crown; LHS girls, Free State boys in 6A top 20

The Eudora girls track and field team totaled 68 points, which was enough for first place among 4A girls teams this weekend. The boys scored 37, enough for seventh. Baldwin finished with 41 points, which earned the team fourth for girls, and scored 27 points for 12th in the boys events.

Eudora High School

Hanna Keltner won the 1,600-meter run in 5:10.16 and was the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:20.60. Teammate Sydney Owens placed sixth at 12:09.12 in the 3,200-meter run, and Zachary Arnold finished fifth in the boys 3,200-meter run at 9:52.52. Owens ran the 1,600-meter run in 5:53.67, which was 15th. Brynn Deterding placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.97 seconds.

Arnold placed seventh in the 1,600-meter run in 4:31.93. Deterding took seventh in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.42 seconds. Keltner also ran the 800-meter run in 2:20.55 for third place.

Eudora’s girls 4×800-meter relay team of Sophie Whalen, Deterding, Keltner and Sydney Owens finished as the runner-up with a time of 9:48.18. The boys 4×100-meter relay team of Cameren Tice, Matthew Magette, Derek Lehmann and Adrion Seals finished third at 42.96 seconds. The boys 4×400-meter team of Tice, Micaiah Jerome, Nate Steinlage and Seals ran for third in 3:24.91.

Sophomore George Hagan jumped 41 feet, 11.50 inches in the triple jump for eighth place. In the boys pole vault, Colton Bowser placed ninth with a 12 feet, 6-inch vault. On the girls side, Izzy Brunkow finished fourth at 11 feet, 6 inches, and Avery Hemphill placed eighth at 9 feet, 6 inches.

Adalyn Hemphill won the long jump at 17 feet, 6.75 inches. She also took fourth in the triple jump at 36 feet, 6.50 inches. In the boys high jump, Magette placed 12th at 6 feet.

Kole Manley won the javelin throw with a distance of 191 feet, 5 inches, which scored 10 points. Nate Steinlage threw 175 feet, 7 inches for sixth, and Christian Koehn placed 14th with a throw of 141 feet, 3 inches. In the girls discus throw, Lucy Griffin finished 12th with a distance of 98 feet, 7 inches, while Brennan Moeckel threw 94 feet, 7 inches. Moeckel also was the runner-up in the shot put with a distance of 39 feet, 3 inches.

Senior Braylen Hoobler placed sixth in the boys shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 7 inches.

6A results

Lawrence High School and Lawrence Free State High School competed in the state track meet in Wichita over Friday and Saturday, with the Lions taking 15th among girls and the Firebirds placing 12th for boys and 28th for girls.

Lawrence High School

In the sprints, the girls 4×100-meter relay team of Rai’Onna Helm, Sienna Wesley, Yamirra Woods and Harper Dye placed seventh for 2 points with a 49.66-second time.

The girls jump events featured some Lawrence representation. Wesley took fifth place in the girls long jump at 17 feet, 5.75 inches. Senior Paige Platt placed third in the girls high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches. Junior Josephine Platt finished ninth in the triple jump, with a distance of 35 feet, 4.75 inches.

Paige Platt made the podium again after throwing 124 feet, 5 inches in the javelin throw, which was sixth-best and scored three points.

Free State High School

For the Firebirds runners, senior Blake Wohler finished 10th in the 3,200-meter run at 9 minutes, 41.18 seconds. Senior Jake Loos was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.41, and he also ran the 1,600-meter run in 4:20.02, which was fifth-best in the meet.

In the boys 4×800-meter relay, the Firebirds team of Jake Hedges, Cristian Wills, Ryan Whittlesey and Grant Lichauer placed third at 8:02.20, while the girls relay team of Elle Cormaney, Brylee Burns, Mady Whitney and Cayman Barnes took 13th at 10:20.23 in the event. Barnes also finished 16th in the 800-meter run at 2:29.53.

In the hurdles, Jameson Carter, a senior, scored 3 points by placing sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.22 seconds.

Freshman Parker Jones jumped 17 feet, 0.50 inches in the girls long jump. In the boys pole vault, senior Stephen Huffman took 13th at 12 feet, 6 inches.

For throwers, freshman Sadie Reynolds was the only girl to net points for the Firebirds, as she threw 121 feet, 6 inches in the discus throw for sixth place, which brought the team 3 points.

More 4A results

Baldwin placed fourth among girls, 12th for boys. Tonganoxie was runner-up in the boys 4×800 relay.

Baldwin High School

The Bulldogs 4×800-meter girls relay team of Shea Griffith, Lily Brecheisen, Kami Moore and Irelyn Kennedy won the event at 9:32.13. The boys team consisting of Ethan Smasal, Kasey Hamrick, Camden Cox and Nick Johnson placed fourth in 8:17.70.

The girls 4×400-meter relay team of Griffith, Emme Nigh, Cheyenne Brunker and Moore took fourth at 4:08.98.

Kennedy finished third in the 3,200-meter run at 11:27.84 and in the 1,600-meter run in 5:22.43. Moore was the runner-up in the girls 800-meter run at 2:19.61, and Nick Johnson was the runner-up for the boys at 1:65.96 in the 800-meter run.

Colton Collum placed 16th in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches. Freshman Peyton Wright took 15th in the long jump at 15 feet, 10.50 inches.

In throws, Senior Harper Schoendaller took third with a throw of 134 feet, 5 inches in the javelin throw. Sophomore Brendan O’Conner finished third in the shot put at 51 feet, 8 inches. O’Conner was also the runner-up in the discus throw, with a distance of 167 feet, 3 inches.

Tonganoxie High School

For Tonganoxie’s runners, the boys 4×800-meter relay team of Parker Welsh, Gavin Shupe, Michael Bottary and Solomon Carter was the runner-up with an 8:04.22 time. Carter finished eighth in the boys 1,600-meter run at 4:34.70, and Welsh took 11th at 4:45.19. The boys team for the 4×100-meter relay placed eighth at 43.43 with Alex Stevens, Kendall Smith, Tanner Hand and Todd Brown making the team.

Junior Kara Johnson ran the girls 3,200-meter run in 12:25.91 for 11th. Brown placed fifth in the boys 100-meter run in 11.08 seconds. Carter ran the boys 800-meter run in 2:00.43 for eighth place. Bottary took 11th at 2:05.45 in the same race, with Shupe placing 12th at 2:05.86.

The team of Smith, Gilmore, Welsh and Carter ran for seventh in the 4×400-meter relay at 3:30.28.

Adalyn Schooler took eighth place in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches, with Kasia Baldock and Reece Schmidt taking 12th and 13th with jumps of 4 feet, 10 inches as well. Senior Mikinzi Smoots placed ninth in the girls triple jump at 34 feet, 0.50 inches. Smoots also took 13th in the pole vault at 9 feet.

As for throwers, Schooler also took third in the girls discus throw at 113 feet, 2 inches. Lucy Rieke took third in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 3.75 inches. Tucker McGuire placed fifth in the discus throw at 157 feet, 7 inches.
