LHS boys soccer opens 2020 season with 2-1 win

The Lawrence High boys soccer team opened the 2020 season with a 2-1 victory over Manhattan High on Friday night at LHS.

Manhattan (0-1) and LHS were tied 1-1 at halftime, and the Lions scored the lone goal of the second half to secure the victory.

LHS seniors Mason Anderson and Alec Murphy provided the scoring punch for the Lions.

Mike Murphy’s squad became the first varsity team sport to open play during the off-again-on-again 2020 fall season.

LHS allowed two spectators per player to attend the match, and those fans were required to wear wristbands and masks while also maintaining at least six feet of social distancing between groups of two.

LHS (1-0) will host Topeka High at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
