LHS girls tennis begins 2019 season

Lawrence High’s girls tennis team started off the 2019-20 school year with a solid showing in a quadrangular Thursday afternoon at the College Boulevard Activity Center.

Both of Lawrence’s top-two singles players picked up a pair of wins on the day. Lili Derby, who is the No. 1 singles player for LHS, took down the top singles player from Shawnee Mission West and Leavenworth. Katie Logan also recorded victories over the No. 2 singles player for those respective teams.

Lana Chieu and Laura Teska began the year with a 1-2 clip in their first action of the 2019 season, recording an 8-4 win over the top Leavenworth tandem. Bella Kirkwood and Morgan Marsh tallied two wins at No. 2 doubles, while Anoosha Redd and Ryleigh Leon earned a pair of victories at No. 3 doubles.

LHS will have another quadrangular at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Leavenworth.

No. 1 singles: Lili Derby, 2-1; 8-0 loss to Olathe West, 8-4 win over SM West, 8-1 win over Leavenworth.

No. 2 singles: Katie Logan, 2-1; 8-2 loss to Olathe West, 8-0 win over SM West, 8-0 win over Leavenworth.

No. 3 singles: Abby Marsh, 1-2; 1-0 Def. to Olathe West, 7-4 win over SM West, 1-0 Def. to Leavenworth.

No. 1 doubles: Lana Chieu and Laura Teska, 1-2; 8-6 loss to Olathe West, 8-1 loss to SM West, 8-4 win over Leavenworth.

No. 2 doubles: Bella Kirkwood and Morgan Marsh, 2-1; 8-3 loss to Olathe West; 8-4 win over SM West, 8-0 win over Leavenworth.

No. 3 doubles: Anoosha Redd and Ryleigh Leon, 2-1; 8-3 loss to Olathe West, 8-4 win over SM West, 8-1 win over Leavenworth.
