The Kansas men’s golf team claimed its first victory of the season on Sunday at the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.
Senior Luke Honner shot 1-over and finished in a three-way tie for second place in the competition to lead the 39th-ranked Jayhawks, who topped No. 13 Illinois by three strokes for the win.
“Great team win today,” KU coach Jamie Bermel said in a press release. “The conditions were not ideal, but I was really proud of the way we battled all weekend. This is the reason why we practice and compete. Winning is always hard and the conditions made it even harder today. Great day to be a Jayhawk.”
For Honner, who began his career at South Dakota State, it was the best finish of his KU tenure and first time appearing in the top five during the 2025-26 season. He was the only player to shoot under par (a 2-under 69, to be specific) in the first round of the event on Saturday, in which he was bogey-free. He then shot 2-over and 1-over in the next two rounds to tie with Purdue’s Sam Easterbrook and Maryland’s Emil Riegger for second as Freddie Turnell of Illinois claimed the individual title.
Supporting Honner in KU’s title bid was freshman Arthur Carlier, who tied for sixth at 4-over. Senior Will King came in 14th at 6-over, junior Will Baker tied for 25th at 11-over and sophomore Hartej Grewal tied for 42nd at 15-over. Junior Noah Holtzman tied for 67th as he shot 20-over while competing as an individual.
Rounding out the top five behind KU (20-over as a team) were Illinois (23-over), Purdue (28-over), Little Rock (37-over) and Maryland (42-over).
The Jayhawks will be back in their home state for the Big 12 Championship this season, as it will take place at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson beginning on April 27.
