The Kansas men’s basketball team has scheduled a home-and-home series with Villanova, KU announced on Wednesday morning.
The Jayhawks and Wildcats will face off in Allen Fieldhouse on Nov. 27 and then play a return date at Villanova in November of 2027.
“We’ve had a lot of great games against Villanova, including some on the biggest stage,” KU coach Bill Self said in a press release. “These games will be great to prepare our guys for Big 12 play, and they will be exciting for our fans.”
The series between KU and Villanova is tied at 5-5 all time, which includes matchups such as the 2008 Sweet 16 in Detroit (a 72-57 victory for the Jayhawks), the 2016 Elite Eight in Louisville, Kentucky (which went the Wildcats’ way, 64-59) and perhaps most unpleasantly for Jayhawk fans, the 2018 Final Four in San Antonio (a 95-79 win for Villanova in which the Wildcats hit 18 3-pointers).
The two schools then split the results of another home-and-home series during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. In beating KU 56-55 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Dec. 21, 2019, Villanova dealt the Jayhawks one of just three losses they suffered that year before the NCAA Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
Most recently, KU got a measure of revenge on the Wildcats with a Final Four victory of its own, 81-65 on April 2, 2022, as the Jayhawks were on their way to another national title.
KU’s nonconference schedule for the 2026-27 season is getting closer to completion with the announcement of this series.
The Jayhawks have a Champions Classic date with Kentucky on Nov. 10. The week prior to the Villanova game, KU will be in Las Vegas for the Players Era Eight, in which it will apparently play three games against some combination of Auburn, Florida, Houston, Notre Dame, Rutgers, UNLV and West Virginia. KU will travel to face UConn at Gampel Pavilion and wrap up its current series against Missouri at the T-Mobile Center in December. It is also now part of the CBS Sports Classic, in which it will battle Ohio State at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 19.
