There will not be fans in the Allen Fieldhouse stands to usher in another college basketball season, but the Kansas men’s and women’s basketball programs still plan to host Late Night in the Phog this month.

The virtual version of the 36th annual event that marks the start of the season is slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 23. Produced by Rock Chalk Video, the virtual Late Night will feature skits by both basketball teams, video highlights, coach and student-athlete introductions and interviews and scrimmages by both teams.

The show will be streamed live on Big 12 Now via ESPN+ and also available on KU’s website and through the program’s Facebook Live feed.

Several local cable networks throughout Kansas and in the Kansas City area, including Midco, Cox, Spectrum and Comcast Xfinity, also will broadcast the event.

In addition to the annual hoops showcase and the opportunity for KU’s players and coaches to show off their other skills, two other recent Late Night traditions also will continue.

Fans are encouraged to join Bill Self and his coaching staff in making an online donation to Just Food or a charity of their choice in their communities, and one fan will get the opportunity to win $5,000 in the annual Half Court Challenge.

All fans are eligible to enter by downloading the Kansas Jayhawks app and looking for the Late Night Half Court Challenge under the “More” tab.

In recent years, half-court heaves by Sherron Collins and Brennan Bechard have won money for students in attendance at the event.
