Missouri football announces hiring of former KU strength coach

New KU football strength coach Zac Woodfin paces around the weight room during a workout at the Anderson Family Football Complex on Thursday, June 29, 2017.

The next chapter in the career of former Kansas football strength coach Zac Woodfin officially began Thursday, as the Jayhawks’ old rivals at Missouri announced the Tigers’ football program hired Woodfin as its strength and conditioning director.

The Journal-World and other outlets reported this past week that Woodfin, KU’s football director of strength and conditioning since early 2017, left the Jayhawks and would join the staff at Mizzou.

Missouri’s new head football coach, Eliah Drinkwitz, made the news official by announcing Woodfin’s hiring.

“Zac brings energy, expertise and toughness to Mizzou,” Drinkwitz stated in a release. “He’s played and developed players at the highest level and we can’t wait for him to get started with our program.”

Woodfin described his new job as an “unbelievable opportunity” in Mizzou football’s news release.

“I’m excited to coach in the best conference in college football and coach for a man like Coach (Drinkwitz),” Woodfin stated. “Every single aspect of this job fires me up and energizes me. I’m fortunate and blessed and I’m going to go above and beyond to do more than what is expected in order to help the program. I can’t wait to get going.”

KU head coach Les Miles currently has a couple of openings on his staff and is expected to hire a replacement for Woodfin in the near future.

Miles also has to find a new safeties coach, after longtime KU assistant Clint Bowen left to become the defensive coordinator at North Texas.
