Baker baseball avoids tournament elimination in 11-10 win over Park

The Baker University baseball team held on Saturday with an 11-10 win over Park to avoid elimination at the Heart of America Conference tournament in Ozark, Mo.

The Wildcats started strong with seven runs in the first inning to Park’s zero. After a scoreless second inning, the Pirates surged forward with six runs in the top of the third to nearly close the gap. The Wildcats answered with three more of their own.

Park scored again in the fourth and the top of the seventh, but Baker answered with another in the bottom of the inning. A two-run rally by Park in the ninth wasn’t enough for the Pirates to advance.

As Baker continues to make its way across the consolation bracket, its next game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday against Mount Mercy. The two teams haven’t met this season, but the Mustangs are coming off a 14-4 win in 7 innings Saturday against MidAmerica Nazarene.
