The Kansas women’s soccer team dropped its fourth game in a row Thursday night, 2-1 to rival Kansas State at Rock Chalk Park.

The Jayhawks (5-7-1) are still searching for their first victory in Big 12 play. Their latest loss dropped them to 0-3 in conference action so far this season.

K-State (6-6-0, 1-2) struck first in Thursday’s Sunflower Showdown, scoring the game’s first goal in the 7th minute of the first half.

KU answered 30 minutes later, when Shira Elinav scored on a goal assisted by Brie Severns to pull the Jayhawks even heading into halftime.

After a scoreless second half, K-State’s Caylee Thornhill scored the game winner in the 99th minute.

KU out-shot the Wildcats 19-9 for the game and 11-5 in shots on goal. It marked the third consecutive conference game in which Kansas out-shot its opponent but fell short on the scoreboard.

The soccer version of the Sunflower Showdown began in 2017. Kansas now owns a 4-2-1 advantage in the all-time series, which had included a shutout in the last five games head-ing into Thursday night’s clash.

Next up, KU will travel to Iowa State on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Cyclones.
