Several dozen youth golfers got a chance to get some pointers from a PGA Tour pro on Saturday, and a couple got to play a round with him as part of a fundraiser for a youth golf organization.
PGA Tour pro Robert Streb – a Johnson County resident and former Kansas State University golfer — was the headline instructor at a free clinic hosted by the Kaw Valley Junior Golf Foundation on Saturday at Twin Oaks Golf, just east of Lawrence along Kansas Highway 10.
The clinic also featured former PGA Tour pro, Chris Thompson, who was an All-American golfer at KU and now is the head pro at Lawrence Country Club. Two area high school golfers — Gunnar Wayenberg of Lawrence High and Ty Deterding of Eudora High — won a contest to play nine holes with the two professional golfers.
The instruction was free for all junior golfers, but the event featured several fundraisers to benefit the Kaw Valley Junior Golf Foundation, which works to promote youth golf in the Douglas County area.
Streb turned pro shortly after graduating from K-State in 2009, and has won six professional golf tournaments, including two on the top PGA Tour.
