KU’s Emilianov takes 8th in discus at track championship

Alexandra Emilianov made it five for five in All-American honors for the Kansas track and field team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

The KU junior took eighth place in Saturday’s discus finals with a top throw of 57.6 meters.

Her top throw of the day came in the prelims, which qualified her for the finals. But she was unable to improve on the mark with her last three throws of the season.

Emilianov became the fifth member of her team to place in the top eight this week, meaning the five Jayhawks who qualified for nationals all came home as All-Americans.

She joined Gleb Dudarev (second, hammer throw), Zach Bradford (sixth, pole vault), Hussain Al Hizam (seventh, pole vault) and Samantha Van Hoecke (eighth, pole vault) in earning 2021 first team honors.

Emilianov was the final Jayhawk to compete at this year’s outdoor meet in Oregon.
