Area track and field athletes returned to competition in one of the larger meets of the early season on Thursday.

After being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, the Baldwin Invitational returned for its 54th year, hosted at Baker University’s stadium in Baldwin City. Among the area high school teams competing were: Baldwin, Eudora, Perry-Lecompton, Veritas, Wellsville, and Basehor-Linwood.

Eudora High School finished second in the women’s team competition,while Baldwin finished third, Basehor-Linwood fifth and Perry-Lecompton seventh, and Wellsville eighth. Spring Hill High School won the women’s team title.

Spring Hill also narrowly won the men’s team title. Eudora High finished second by seven points, while Perry-Lecompton finished third, Basehor-Linwood fifth,Baldwin eight, Veritas ninth and Wellsville 10th.
