More fall sports concluded over the weekend as local athletes performed at their peak in state competitions. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Joey Dooley, Lawrence

Lawrence High quarterback/defensive back Joey Dooley (15) on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026 at Lawrence High School in Lawrence.

Dooley was nearly perfect through the air in Lawrence’s 52-7 win over Shawnee Mission South, completing 84% of his passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns. Dooley also ran for another score as he finished with 302 total yards.

Shea Griffith, Baldwin

Griffith finished sixth in the 4A state cross-country meet on Saturday with a time of 19 minutes, 45.31 seconds. She led the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the state meet.
