The first full month of the fall sports season is almost over, and local athletes are helping their teams build momentum and wins as the season rolls along. Here are this week’s selections for Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Maddon Brittingham, Free State

Free State bounced back from a loss to Manhattan with a 49-27 win over Shawnee Mission East, and junior running back Maddon Brittingham accounted for five touchdowns and over 160 yards rushing the ball.

Peyton Wright, Baldwin

The Baldwin girls golf team finished second in the Topeka City/Topeka West Invitational on Monday, behind only Seaman. Peyton Wright led the Bulldogs and finished third in the individual leaderboard by shooting a 77 in the invitational.
