The second full week of the high school sports season is over, and athletes across the area turned in highlight performances. Here are this week’s selections for Athletes of the Week:

Liv Maddox, Veritas Christian

Maddox placed fifth out of 142 runners in the Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Invite, finishing the race in 20 minutes, 10.0 seconds. Maddox was the only freshman runner in the top five of the race.

Finn Moore, Free State

In Free State’s football season opener, Moore ran for 175 yards on 24 carries and three rushing scores, while throwing three passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in the air. Moore and the Firebirds knocked off the defending 6A champion Gardner Edgerton 35-34 at home.
