Free State, Lawrence boys tennis teams compete in first four rounds of Sunflower League tournament before rain delay postpones final round to Monday

Olathe — The Sunflower League boys tennis tournament at the College Boulevard Activity Center came a round away from concluding on Friday before a rain delay postponed the conclusion until Monday at 4 p.m.
Jun Brewer, the Lawrence No. 1 singles player, is set up for a third-place match on Monday. He entered as the No. 5 seed and went 3-1 on Friday. Brewer started with an 8-2 win over Olathe North’s Olivier Ramus and beat Shawnee Mission South’s Aden Braden-Alvarez 8-3.
Brewer faced No. 4-seeded Aidan Lashley from Shawnee Mission East and won 8-7 to reach the semifinal round. There, Brewer lost 8-2 to the No. 1-seeded Brody Feldman from Shawnee Mission East to set up his third-place match with Mill Valley’s Dalton Parde, who entered the tournament with the second seed.
Drew Harrison from Free State entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed. He started with an 8-2 win over Olathe East’s Davis Pritchard and an 8-3 win over Olathe West’s Owen Taylor.
Harrison lost 8-1 to Olathe South’s Nolan Fosha, the No. 3 seeded player in the tournament. He won his first consolation match 8-6 over Gardner Edgerton’s Isaiah Lang and will face Lashley in the fifth-place match.
Asher Sikes, the No. 8 seed singles player from Lawrence, will compete in the ninth-place match on Monday. Sikes started with an 8-0 win over Shawnee Mission South’s Brenden Swanson but lost in the next round to Free State’s Lawrence Dao 8-5.
Sikes won back-to-back matches in the consolation bracket, first with an 8-1 win over Cohen Woller from Shawnee Mission North and second with an 8-6 win over Braden-Alvarez, whom Brewer beat earlier in the tournament. Sikes is set to face Olathe Northwest’s Zaid Ashkar on Monday.
Dao, the ninth-seeded individual, began with an 8-2 and an 8-5 win in the first two rounds. He then lost 8-0 to Feldman, which brought him to the top consolation bracket. Dao lost his first match to Lashley 8-3 to set up a seventh-place match against Lang, who lost to Harrison.
For the doubles teams, Jack Bauch and Josh Lavin from Lawrence were the No. 5 seed. They started with an 8-0 win and an 8-4 win before losing 8-4 to Olathe Northwest’s No. 4-seeded doubles team. Bauch and Lavin lost their first consolation match 8-7 and will be in the seventh-place match on Monday.
Free State’s Connor Coons and Jacob Wang entered as the No. 11 seed and won their first two matches 8-5 and 8-7. Their first loss came against Shawnee Mission East’s No. 3-seeded doubles team, and the Firebird duo also lost their first consolation match to put them up against Bauch and Lavin in the seventh-place match.
The Firebirds’ No. 2 doubles team of Galeno Wills and Kiefer Bullock started the tournament as the 13th seed. They started with an 8-5 win before losing 8-2 in the second round. They lost their next two matches in the consolation bracket and will compete in the 15th-place match against the Lawrence doubles team of Julian Bricker and Xavier Klish.
Bricker and Klish, the 19th seed, won their first match 8-6 but lost their second 8-0. The duo lost 8-2 and 8-0 in the consolation rounds to draw the Free State duo in the 15th-place match.
The tournament will continue at the College Boulevard Activity Center on Monday at 4 p.m., and the regional tournament will also take place there on Saturday, May 10.
