Eddie Roman Nose is having a busy summer.
Roman Nose is hopping between multiple AAU teams this summer and traveling around the country competing in basketball tournaments. With one year left in his high school career, Roman Nose is hoping to finish strong and accumulate offers from colleges. The best way to get college teams to come with offers is a strong high school season in which he leads the Lawrence boys basketball team to the state tournament.
“I’m definitely taking it personal, and we need to have a better year than we did this past season,” Roman Nose said. I’m very focused on making state this year. I know a lot of people are going to be doubting us, since we haven’t made it since 2022, 2021, but making state is a big thing for me.”
Last year, the Lions struggled to win games, finishing 6-14 as a young team got its first varsity experience. Roman Nose entered the season knowing he would have a large role as the point guard of the team.
“Even though I knew it was hard, I didn’t know we’re going to be that hard,” Roman Nose said. “So I think, as a team, we just need to all be ready and prepared. Because I don’t think everyone was really prepared for the moment and how many hard patches we had to face.”
To be more prepared this season, Roman Nose is trying to be a vocal leader on the team. As the top returning guard on the team, it’s Roman Nose’s job to lead the Lions on the court.
“I know I’m going to be ready,” Roman Nose said. “I work out every day, every night…nonstop workout, weights, every day. I’m always playing basketball, looking at film — always getting ready. I think I’ve just got to be as ready as I can, and I won’t shy away from the moment.”
Roman Nose has played basketball all his life. He grew up in a basketball family with cousins who play Division II basketball.
Along with becoming more of a vocal leader, Roman Nose wants to develop his game this summer ahead of his senior year. As a quick, downhill scorer, Roman Nose wants to get a little stronger.
“I’m a skinnier dude, but I gotta use my speed and my athleticism and length,” Roman Nose said. “I think also my three point — my three point wasn’t as good as it should have been this year as my sophomore year — but I have just been going rep after rep every day, like I said, every day and night.”
That development, he hopes, will be what makes the difference for Roman Nose to fulfill his goal of playing college basketball. Roman Nose is confident in his ability to play at the next level, and for him, he just needs to show teams what he’s been working on day-to-day.
“I know a lot of coaches are starting to follow me recently from a lot of showcases I’ve been playing,” Roman Nose said. “So hopefully, I just have to wait for my moment, and then I know I’m able to play at that type of level.”
