January is almost over, and the winter sports season is coming up on its final stretch as teams prepare for the postseason. With that, several local athletes had performances of note for their teams over the week. Here are this week’s Journal-World Athletes of the Week:

Cooper Carr, Baldwin

Cooper Carr became the Baldwin boys basketball team’s all-time leader in assists with 259, passing Dustin Schiller’s mark of 257 career assists. He averages 4.7 assists per game and is still a junior for the Bulldogs.

Yamirra Woods, Lawrence

The Lawrence girls wrestling team competed in De Soto on Saturday, and Yamirra Woods placed third in the 130-pound weight class and scored 21 points. The first-year wrestler finished with two pins, including a pin after one minute and seven seconds in the third-place match.
