Several high school teams were slated to return to competition in the winter sports season during the first full week of January. The blizzard that hit northeast Kansas altered many schedules, and schools have started to readjust.
For the two Lawrence 6A schools, only Lawrence High School had to postpone a contest. The Lions were set to host Shawnee Mission Northwest on Friday, but that game has been delayed. Lawrence basketball coach Nick Wood told the Journal-World that no date had been decided as of Friday night, and no announcement was made the following day. A bowling invitational at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence was postponed from Friday to Jan. 17.
Free State managed to play two home basketball games against Gardner Edgerton on Friday.
The Frontier League teams were harder hit, as those schools had more games scheduled at the start of the week. Baldwin and Tonganoxie’s basketball games from Tuesday were postponed. The boys will play games on Jan. 30, and the girls will play on Feb. 6. Baldwin and Eudora’s basketball games from Friday have been postponed, and no new date has been set on the Frontier League website as of Saturday night.
Eudora postponed a series of boys and girls basketball games against Paola from Jan. 7 to Feb. 24.
