With the start of another sports season, the Lawrence Journal-World sports staff will highlight one boy and one girl for athletic accomplishments in each Friday’s newspaper. Here are the first week’s selections:

Asher Sikes, Lawrence High School

The Lawrence High boys soccer team got its first win in a dramatic, come-from-behind victory over Topeka High School in Lawrence on Tuesday. Facing a 4-1 deficit just a few minutes into the second half, the Lions roared back to tie the game on one of Sikes’ two goals, and later won the game in overtime on Sikes’ penalty kick.

Hanna Keltner, Eudora High School

Eudora’s girls cross country team won the Bobcat Invite on Thursday as Keltner led the team and placed second overall in the race. Her time of 19 minutes, 33.10 seconds was only 6.10 seconds behind first, while she finished almost a minute faster than the third-place runner.
