2024 Journal-World All-Area Girls Cross-Country Team

The Journal-World All-Area teams are carefully selected by the Journal-World sports staff.

Coach of the Year: Thomas Broxterman, Baldwin

The Baldwin Bulldogs placed third in the 4A girls cross-country state meet as three of the team’s top-five scorers finished in the top-25 and two in the top-10.

Player of the Year: Hanna Keltner, Eudora

Hanna Keltner

Keltner finished her senior season by winning the 4A girls cross-country state meet with a time of 19:18.56. Her time was more than 30 seconds faster than the runner-up at the meet, and the Cardinals placed second overall as a team in the meet.

Cayman Barnes, Free State

Free State senior runner Cayman Barnes

For Barnes’s final season at Free State, she placed 19th in the 6A girls cross-country state meet with a time of 19:34.05. Earlier in the year, she won the Billy Mills Invitational.

Brylee Burns, Free State

Brylee Burns

Burns was the second-fastest runner on the team at the state meet, and she finished her season with a ninth-place finish in the regional meet and a third-place finish at the Billy Mills Invitational.

Shea Griffith, Baldwin

Shea Griffith

Griffith placed ninth in the 4A girls cross-country state meet as a sophomore. She also placed fourth in the Frontier League meet and had a season-best time of 19 minutes, 42 seconds.

Irelyn Kennedy, Baldwin

Irelyn Kennedy

Kennedy set a school record at 18 minutes, 48 seconds in a junior year campaign that ended in her placing second in the 4A girls cross-country state meet, second in the Frontier League meet and second in the regional meet.

Josie Kim, Bishop Seabury

Josie Kim

Kim ran a season best of 2:35.63 while leading the Seahawks throughout the season. The senior finished 19th in the Kaw Valley Conference Championship.

Kami Moore, Baldwin

Kami Moore

Moore broke into the top-25 at the 4A girls cross-country state meet at 23rd overall. As a sophomore, she placed sixth in the Frontier League meet.

Juliet Outka, Lawrence

Juliet Outka

Outka was the top runner for the Lions as a junior. She finished her year with a personal best time of 20 minutes, 25.88 seconds.
