Opening round of 6A state tourney postponed for FSHS baseball

Free State’s baseball team has to wait one more day to take on the No. 1 seed in the Class 6A state tournament. The entire opening round of the state tourney, which was supposed to take place in Fort Scott on Thursday, was postponed to Friday due to inclement weather.

The matchup between No. 8 FSHS and top-seeded Blue Valley is the third game on Friday, and is slated to begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of the second game at LaRoche Baseball Complex.

The Firebirds are 13-9 entering the final event of the season and coming off an upset victory over Wichita West in the regional championship. The Tigers, meanwhile, are 20-2 after defeating Lawrence High in the regional final.

With Thursday’s postponements, the Class 6A semifinals, third-place game and state championship game will all take place on Saturday.

In addition, the Class 4A state softball tournament in Salina was also moved back a day due to wet field conditions. Eudora High’s softball squad, the No. 5 seed in the event with a 18-4 record, will now face No. 4 Andale/Garden Plain (19-3) at 6 p.m. Friday at Bill Burke Complex.
