Kansas tennis falls to Oklahoma State in regular-season finale

In the regular-season finale, the Kansas women’s tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Oklahoma State grabbed an early 1-0 advantage by winning courts one and three during doubles action.

Kansas bounced back to score two quick points in singles play. Tiffany Lagarde defeated OSU’s Lenka Stara (6-3, 6-4) on court five. Malkia Ngounoue recorded a hard-fought win (6-4, 7-5) over Alana Wolfberg on court two.

Oklahoma State then rattled off three consecutive victories to win the match.

The Jayhawks ended the year on a six-match losing skid, with their last win coming on March 26 against West Virginia. Kansas went 7-12 during the 2021 campaign, including a 1-5 clip against Big 12 opponents.

“I want to thank our loyal fans who have continued to show up this season for our team physically and from afar,” head coach Todd Chapman said in a team release. “With COVID and the difficulties that have come with it, your support makes a huge difference to our program.”

“I can say we have fallen short this season from where we want to be and where we expect to be,” Chapman added. “But I can promise all of you better days are ahead and we will be back better than ever in the future.”
