KU baseball earns walk-off win in series finale against Baylor

After losing the first two games on Saturday, the Kansas baseball team ended its home series against Baylor in style with a walk-off win during Sunday’s series finale at Hoglund Ballpark.

Freshman Maui Ahuna played hero for the Jayhawks (21-15, 3-9 Big 12) by delivering a walk-off single in the ninth to help his team secure a 3-2 victory. It came after Baylor (24-12, 5-7 Big 12) won both of Saturday’s games, with a 8-2 victory in the opener and 6-2 win in the nightcap.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday, Dylan Ditzenberger led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Tavian Josenberger. With one out and Ditzenberger on second, Ahuna lined a pitch off Baylor’s Luke Boyd to left field to score Ditzenberger.

The theatrics wouldn’t have been possible, had it not been for the stellar start by left-handed pitcher Eli Davis. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, striking out five and giving up only one run. He threw 102 pitches on his way to his best outing of the Big 12 season.

Kansas reliever Jonah Ulane, who pitched the top half of the ninth and gave up a leadoff homer, earned the win to improve to 2-0. Josenberger extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Ditzenberger and Ahuna each had multi-hit games along with Brett Vosik.

KU will travel to UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
