Baker softball upsets No. 1 seed behind no-hitter from Olivia Brees

The No. 2 Baker University softball team upset No. 1 seed Marian (Ind.), 1-0, in 10 innings Tuesday afternoon in the second game of the 2019 National Championship Opening Round in Springfield, Missouri.

The Wildcats advanced to the championship game with an overall record of 47-7. Baker dealt the Knights their first loss this season, as the No. 1 seed in the Springfield Bracket and the No. 2 team in the nation fell to 50-1 overall.

Senior Olivia Brees tossed all 10 innings for Baker and recorded her fourth no-hitter this season. Brees also collected 14 strikeouts, which marks the 25th time this season that she has struck out double-digits batters, en route to her 100th career win.

Sophomore Briele Rees put the finishing touches on the upset for the Wildcats with an RBI single in the 10th.

The Wildcats and Knights will meet again in the championship game at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
