Children looking to get involved with the game of golf will have a golden opportunity to do just that on Saturday afternoon at Twin Oaks Golf Complex in Eudora.

Starting at 1 p.m., Twin Oaks will host “Clubs for Kids Day,” an event sponsored by PING and the Midwest Section of the PGA Foundation, in which young golfers will be given new clubs, free lessons and a chance to play a round at the complex just south of K-10.

“We’re hoping to give away 500 new PING golf clubs and introduce golf to hundreds of kids,” said Jeff Burey, co-owner and manager of Twin Oaks.

In addition to receiving free clubs, the aspiring golfers will be able to play either of Twin Oaks’ two courses and receive instruction from three of the Midwest Section’s leading PGA players and instructors – Rob Wilkin, a multi-time former Player of the Year; and Jay Lispi, 35-year PGA professional.

The schedule of events includes registration and free golf on the Red Bridge Wee Links and/or Wakarusa Pitch and Putt course at 1 p.m. Bidding in a silent auction for golf memorabilia, equipment and apparel also begins at 1 p.m.

From there, Wilkin and Lispi will conduct a kids clinic at 2 p.m., and new sets of golf clubs will be distributed at 3 p.m., with winners of the silent auction announced at 4 p.m.
