FSHS boys bowling claims second at regionals; LHS sends 4 to state meet

There will be plenty of city flavor at the 6A state bowling meet next weekend.

Free State’s boys bowling team qualified after placing second at the 6A regional competition at West Ridge Lanes in Topeka. The Firebirds had three medalists, scoring 3,096 as a team. Junction City won the event with a score of 3,142.

A.J. Baker led the way for FSHS, rolling a series score of 610 to notch fourth on the individual leaderboard. Bayn Schrader claimed seventh with a series score of 605, while Joey Taylor finished in eighth with a series score of 600.

On the girls side, Lexie Lockwood and Sydney Jordan both qualified for the state meet. Lockwood finished eighth with a 501, while Jordan rolled a 488 to notch a state berth. Free State’s girls bowling team took fifth as a team with a 2,412.

Lawrence High had four athletes punch their ticket to the state bowling meet.

Ashley Dykes, who placed fifth, led the Lions with a series score of 531. Emilie Rodman also qualified, as LHS finished fourth as a team with a 2,613. On the boys side, Lawrence notched fifth with a 2,905. Rhett May (ninth place) and Jayden Cress qualified for state with a 592 and 548, respectively.

The 6A state meet is slated to take place Friday at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.
