LHS girls drop 45-41 decision at St. James Academy

The Lawrence High girls basketball team fell just shy of a perfect week.

After a pair of wins over the previous three days, Lawrence couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch in a 45-41 road loss to St. James Academy on Friday night. The Lions are now 2-2 on the year following a 2-1 clip this week.

Both teams were tied at 10 after one quarter, but the Thunder eventually claimed a 21-17 lead at the intermission. LHS pulled within 1 by the end of the third period but was unable to complete the comeback in the fourth quarter.

Layla Harjo knocked down three triples en route to leading LHS with 11 points on the night. Amaya Marshall and Ozi Ajekwu each had 7 points for the Lions in a losing effort.

Lawrence will host Shawnee Mission North at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
