Douglas County officials who won elections in November were sworn into office Monday at the county courthouse.
Douglas County Commissioners Shannon Reid and Shannon Portillo, District Attorney Suzanne Valdez, Sheriff Jay Armbrister and Register of Deeds Kent Brown were among the newly elected officials sworn in by District Court Judge James McCabria. Reelected Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew and the deputies of several county offices also took their oaths during the ceremony, which was attended by some officials’ family members.
McCabria, Judge Kay Huff and Judge Mark Simpson, who were all retained in November’s election, were sworn in by Judge Stacey Donovan during a separate ceremony Monday at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.
Douglas County Treasurer Adam Rains, who also won election in November, was sworn into office in September 2020 when he took over for former Treasurer Paula Gilchrist, who stepped down with about a year left in her term. Unlike other elected county positions, Rains’ new term will not start until October 2021.
