A memorial for 17-year-old Eudora High School student Aftyn Hankins, who died last year in a car accident, is displayed on a chair in the audience next to Aftyn’s grandmother, Anita Musick, on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Eudora High School commencement ceremony. Musick and Aftyn’s friends had previously requested that Aftyn be recognized at the ceremony, but the school denied the request. Many of Aftyn’s classmates wore purple ribbons with their graduation regalia to honor her.
