To the editor:

The most valuable and vulnerable citizens of any civilization are the children.

They are also costly to raise. Childcare centers do not generate cash flow.

Good childcare centers give peace of mind to parents who work.

Hilltop, where I taught from 2008 to 2024, gave a lot to Lawrence over the years. Many KU students worked there. Hilltop helped train student teachers. We teachers genuinely loved our students and families.

I remember the annual Halloween parades, the walks around campus, the many wonderful people with whom I taught and worked. I remember the families.

I felt privileged to be part of Hilltop.

There is a need for childcare in Lawrence for all the families who live there, KU staff and students as well.

If only someone would donate the money to fund such a center …

We have a need for childcare here. What is to be done about this?
