To the editor:

“A superpower is dying by suicide because the Republican Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the mad king.”

Journalist Garrett Graff wrote that sentence in a Wired Magazine column published Jan. 22, and historian Heather Cox Richardson quoted it in her own column, Jan. 26. It was true then, and the events that made it so glaringly true, along with the cowardice of the GOP, have only accelerated. The pointless war with Iran and the idiotic trade war with Canada have both seriously damaged our nation’s military and economic security.

What have Kansas’ elected Republican representatives done besides Moran’s feeble, pathetic letter begging the president to let Kansas have salt from Canada? They have behaved beyond disgracefully, violating their oaths of office and rubber-stamping Trump’s betrayal of every American and Republican principle. If Moran, Marshall, T. Mann, Schmidt and Estes had any integrity or care for Kansas, they would leave that traitorous nest of vipers once known as the GOP to caucus with the Democrats, to try at least to repair some of the devastation they and the GOP have visited on our state and nation.
