Letter to the editor: Another clear message to legislators
To the editor:
Voter rejection of the last two Constitutional amendments amounts to a landslide renunciation of the Kansas Legislature. Clearly and justifiably, the courts have broader base of public support than the current Statehouse majority. If this out-of-touch Legislature continues to be hell-bent on improving the “system,” perhaps next time they should start closer to home. Ending gerrymandering, reducing the influence of big money and the pocket politicians it controls and defending the state’s tradition of truly free and fair elections would surely help carry the Kansas Legislature toward a better grasp of the public will. The Kansas Legislature exists to serve the people of Kansas. Unfortunately, too many in Topeka have a backward sense of that obligation.
