Letter to the editor: A global shift
To the editor:
The majority of GOP officials seem to be just fine with this administration’s America First isolationist stances, but they also seem to be missing a huge change in international affairs.
Countries that were our allies and friends now view the U.S. as unstable and unpredictable. They have decided to seek economic interests outside of the U.S. and make arrangements that bypass the U.S. An example is the recent trade pacts that Canada signed with China. The administration’s tariff policies are so uneven and haphazard that they seek stability elsewhere. The very apparent toddler, childish behavior that says I will tariff you if you don’t agree with my wanting Greenland tells other countries that the U.S. cannot be trusted or counted on. After his latest move against our allies, we will have no friends in the world.
The bottom line? They will take their business elsewhere. Too many in the GOP have forgotten that in the first Trump administration, he tariffed farm products and our agriculture lost a decent share of the market overseas. It never came back. They should look to the future because the share lost to this tariff effort won’t be coming back either. Those countries who used to buy from us now have other suppliers who are more reliable. The world is doing business around the U.S.
Wake up, you morons!
