Letter to the editor: Haskell probe

To the editor:

I have long appreciated Haskell Indian Nations University, and I welcomed news of the Indian Leader newspaper forcing the university to rescind a directive by the president meant to limit free speech.

What comes next?

I’d like to challenge the Indian Leader to use its new-found freedom to put together a well-sourced story on the future of HINU. Will it be here five years from now? Ten years?

HINU is a federally funded institution. How did the university’s budgets fare during the Barack Obama and Donald Trump administrations? What is the Joe Biden administration proposing?

Are the federal policies intended to let HINU slowly die on the vine? I think they are, but I’m hoping Indian Leader proves me wrong.

Lawrence
