Letter to the editor: Blighted community

To the editor:

Many people would be surprised that the oldest gated community in Lawrence is over 150 years old. It does not have a Home Owners Association, nor are there any yearly or monthly dues to pay to reside in it.

However, there is a great deal of neglect in the gated community. Poor roadways, potholes, overgrown trees, including dead trees and broken branches. The residents’ markers with their names are in mud whenever the rain comes and some are not even presentable for other reasons.

The community should be cleaned up as some believe it is historic. The residents in the community would not object to the noise if work were being done. They are a quite bunch, and the city won’t have to deal with a neighborhood group representing the community.

Yes, the gated community is Oak Hill Cemetery, and it is not reflective of a historic property and needs attention as it is a blight on the City Commission and city leadership and not very presentable to visitors.

Wonder what it will look like on the upcoming Memorial Day?
