Letter to the editor: Killing without due process

To the editor:

I concede that there is far too much illicit drug use across our country. Having lost two nephews to fentanyl-related overdoses, I’m well aware of the resulting pain and trauma survivors experience. That said, I take extreme umbrage at our military being directed to attack private vessels — first in the Caribbean and now in the Pacific — resulting in the assassination, without due process, of individuals or groups of people “suspected” (without any publicly documented evidence) of transporting fentanyl into our country. Our military should not be used to administer what might be characterized as “vigilante justice.” Congress must step up to prevent our country from sinking to the depths of despotism. Let’s be sure our representatives hear from us on this matter.

Mike Lawrence,
