Letter to the editor: A letter to Zelenskyy
To the editor:
The members of the Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Lawrence would like to share the letter it recently sent to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine:
When we witnessed how our president and vice president behaved toward you at the meeting in the Oval Office on Feb. 28, we were appalled and ashamed. We all immediately wanted to write and personally apologize to you for their unforgivably rude behavior. They do not represent us.
Only a small minority of Americans condone their kind of bullying and lies. For you, personally, we have the greatest respect, for how bravely you have dealt with the invasion of your country and how you have persisted through the never-ending rounds of pep talks with allies necessary to keep their support as the war dragged on.
We have nothing but admiration for you and for the citizens and soldiers of Ukraine who have behaved with such great courage. We can only hope that our misguided president and vice president will find a way to deal honorably with you and our other allies in the future.
Nori Rost, minister, and Carol Estes, social justice chair, Unitarian Universalists Congregation of Lawrence
