Letter to the editor: It’s Trump who’s the enemy
To the editor:
Candidate Trump promised change; we’re getting chaos. He promised a better life for ordinary wage-earners; billionaires are benefitting.
Trump’s choices made so far violate constitutional mandates and do little to build trust and confidence. This widening divide leads us to constant chaos. The many conflicts of interest in the proposed Cabinet and the looming congressional traffic jams are scandalous. Thwarting Congress when they are unwilling to do his bidding if their votes don’t go his way guarantees a Trump stalemate. Tax cuts for the rich and attacks on social services show little regard for the average wage earner.
Trump is undermining the morale of dedicated, highly qualified federal employees as he fires department leaders with expertise in their fields and chooses inexperienced multimillionaires and family members for high-level positions. This is an atrocious example of greed and self-promotion.
Trump’s expressed immigration policies of “deporting all undocumented immigrants” will destroy our economy, not to mention tearing families apart for those working and in the process of trying to get green cards.
Trump says news sources are the enemy of the people, but Trump is the real enemy of democracy. Threatening or suing news sources or reporters diminishes transparency, oversight and accountability, and our right to a free press that reports data and actions based on facts.
Warning: Willingness to promote unqualified mega wealthy businessmen to our highest levels of federal responsibility is un-American, extreme, despicable and a violation of our constitution. Let’s tell our legislators we didn’t vote for chaos.
