Letter to the editor: Reverse decision to leave WHO

To the editor:

President Trump has begun the yearlong process of leaving the World Health Organization (WHO), considering it an affront to American sovereignty. To quote from the New York Times: “Leaving the W.H.O. would mean, among other things, that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would have no access to the global data that the agency provides. When China characterized the genetic sequence of the novel coronavirus in 2020, it released the information to W.H.O., which shared it with other nations.”

It is not too late to reverse his action. And it is essential that we do so. After all, microbes do not respect national sovereignty, no matter how loudly it is proclaimed.
