Letter to the editor: Congress, hear us
To the editor:
America is a democracy at great risk. Where is our Congress? We need your immediate legislative action! Some in Congress are bravely speaking out about Donald Trump’s tyranny. Where are the rest of our elected leaders? We need all members of Congress to remind Trump of who controls the budget and who represents the people.
Trump embarrassed America when he bungled trying to bring Russia to the peace table. His disaster in Alaska was pathetic. He threw Ukraine under the bus and gave Vladimir Putin, a war criminal from a fascist country, red-carpet treatment. World leaders who were our allies are rightfully alarmed.
How could this happen in a few short years? Our government has constitutionally mandated checks and balances. All branches must do their jobs. The bully in the White House is causing congressional capitulation. The pillars of our great nation are crumbling fast.
I remember our country going forward, not backward. We were respected throughout the world. We did not abandon our allies or make money from war. Decency and morality meant something.
We must remember what it means to be an American, like the greatest generations before us, especially in the 1930s and ’40s. We must remind our Congress that we the people will keep speaking up. We must keep pressuring our legislators to exert their authority and oversight of laws they already passed and monies they have already committed. We must stand up, speak out, rally, march, call and write. It takes all of us!
