Letter to the editor: Disappointed in KU’s caving
To the editor:
I am a KU grad, earning three degrees there, and I have had great love and respect for the school. Years ago, I established a scholarship designated to help “first generation immigrant” students and a number of these students have benefitted from the scholarship, which has really pleased me.
I just got home from a three-month stay in Europe and opened our mail. There I found a letter from KU Endowment telling me that the Trump administration’s anti-DEI directives affect my scholarships. I am frankly outraged by this. As a result, I plan to terminate my scholarships with KU Endowment effective immediately. I do not want our money going into the general fund or being used for purposes other than what we directed.
I am obviously not upset with any one person at endowment personally, but I am very disappointed in my alma mater that has now totally caved to the horrible directives of the current regime.
Frankly, if all the colleges and universities would work together, these harmful directives from the current regime could be combatted and stopped. Why is KU not doing this? Ask yourselves if your money is well spent going to an institution that has neither backbone nor brains.
I am so sorry.
