Letter to the editor: True Kansas values
To the editor:
I voted straight blue Tuesday.
I realize that’s likely out of step with at least a plurality of Kansas voters. But I could never cast a ballot for any party or person supporting a presidential candidate who is a proven liar, cheat, fraud and sexual abuser; who is a convicted felon but has not yet paid for his felonies.
I’m out of step with Kansans voting for a presidential candidate whose demonstrated lies about legal immigrants and hurricane relief have harmed our fellow Americans; who publicly promises his illegal mass deportations “will be bloody.” I cannot vote for the party and people who supported the violent Jan. 6 insurrection, nor for those who continue to lie about the 2020 election. I can’t vote for a presidential candidate who has foisted documented Russian disinformation on the American public, both in and out of office, and who has publicly insulted veterans such as myself, nor for those who belong to his party.
In my opinion, the so-called Republican party, which caused tens of thousands of needless Kansas deaths by spreading misinformation about COVID, has forfeited consideration of a single vote.
Many of our fellow Kansans will vote for candidates of that party, and may likely prevail as in the past. I prefer true Kansas values of honesty, decency, tolerance and respect for others. That’s how I voted; I’ll not vote for anything less.
Gary Henry,
Lawrence
