Letter to the editor: Vote for democracy

To the editor:

On Nov. 5 citizens will make critical decisions that will guide our country for decades. Some have made their choices. Others are struggling. I’m not talking to those who’ve made their decisions. To the others, the independents and undecided, I feel your struggles. Look to the past for guidance for the future.

Please don’t think Democrat or Republican. Don’t think the border, immigration, abortion or corruption. Don’t think money, 401(k)s or taxes. Think about your feelings. Think about grandkids and future kids. Think about tomorrow and days after that. Do you want tomorrow to be positive so grandkids have peace and hope? Do you want tomorrow to have stability and order, free from strife and uncertainty, with a vision of the future and opportunity for all?

These past months were stuffed with anxiety, lies, fearmongering. Our democracy is at great risk. The consequences of losing it are catastrophic. Our anxiety level is topping out. The negatives make it difficult to see the positives. But there is a path to sanity, a way to wade through the muck.

Think of our ancestors — immigrants sacrificing to build what has become the world’s greatest democracy. They fought through the muck by thinking of the future, their children and future children. Their vision was to make their lives better, the positives, not negatives. Think like they did, building a life, not tearing it down, building for their kids and future kids.

Vote for kids and saving our democracy. Vote for positives, not negatives. Vote!
